A boy named Hori Sammy was born with half a heart. Photo results showed that the boy only had one ventricle pump, not two like normal humans. According to medical matter, he could only live for a few days, but that did not happen for Sammy as he is still healthy entering the age of seven years old. “It’s amazing to watch him play football with his friends. We never predicted he would live more than a week,” said his mother, Eileen, according to The Sun.
The 41 year old woman said that she did not expect her son to survive, after hearing the doctor’s explanation after childbirth. “The doctor says that it was the most serious condition he had ever seen. He also said it does not support life,” she said.
Eillen and Ken, her husband, was asked to consider medical alternatives offered to save Sammy. Not wanting to give up to fate, the couple who lives in Cambridge, took all the risks of medical action required.
Sammy underwent a number of medical studies to determine the most appropriate type of action. After analyzing medical data and observing the photos of heart development, Sammy had his first surgery at the age of six weeks. This action was followed by two other surgeries at the age of four years.
After passing through three surgeries with quite high risk levels, Sammy recovered. This kid grew up cheerfully and agile like other kids his age. “He has a normal life. He likes playing football. Though sometimes he has to avoid cold weather because he has a bad respiratory circulation, he is able to walk and swim like a normal kid,” says Eileen.
